Unicode Block - Ahom
Ahom is a script used historically to write the Ahom language, which was spoken in the northeastern region of India, particularly in Assam, and is now largely extinct as a spoken tongue, though it survives in liturgical and scholarly contexts. The characters in this block are based on an abugida system, where each consonant inherently carries a vowel sound that can be modified with diacritical marks, and the script also includes its own set of numerals and punctuation. Modern efforts to revive and study the Ahom language rely on this encoded set of symbols to digitally preserve ancient manuscripts, inscriptions, and historical records, allowing researchers and descendants to access and interpret the cultural heritage of the Ahom kingdom that flourished from the 13th to the 18th century.
