Bopomofo Extended is a small set of additional phonetic symbols used mainly for transcribing dialects and minority languages in Taiwan and southern China, supplementing the standard Mandarin Bopomofo system with extra letters for sounds like retroflex consonants and non-Mandarin vowels.
