Unicode Block - Brahmi
Brahmi is a historical script block that encodes the ancient Brahmi writing system, the ancestor of many modern South and Southeast Asian scripts, including Devanagari, Tamil, and Thai. It contains letters, independent vowels, vowel signs, punctuation marks, and numerals, along with combining marks for modifying sounds. The characters are primarily used for scholarly and epigraphic purposes, as they represent texts from ancient Indian inscriptions, such as those of Emperor Ashoka. The block includes both standalone letters and dependent vowel signs that attach to consonants, reflecting the abugida structure of the script. Its encoded forms preserve the historical shapes of glyphs, enabling digital representation and analysis of early Indic documents.
