Unicode Block - Buginese
Unicode Version 18.0
Buginese is a script used to write the Buginese language of South Sulawesi, Indonesia, and it consists of eighteen consonant letters, five independent vowels, and various diacritical marks for modifying vowel sounds, with an inherent vowel /a/ that can be altered by adding vowel signs above, below, or beside the base consonants, reflecting the Lontara tradition of writing on palm leaves. The script also includes a special punctuation mark for emphasis and a repetition sign, and it follows a left-to-right writing direction, though its use has largely declined in favor of the Latin alphabet, it remains culturally significant for historical manuscripts and modern revitalization efforts.
