Unicode Block - Buhid
Buhid is a script used for writing the Buhid language, an indigenous Austronesian language spoken on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines. It is an abugida, where each consonant character inherently carries the vowel /a/, and modifications to the consonant shape or the addition of diacritical marks indicate other vowels or the suppression of a vowel. The script is closely related to other Philippine writing systems, such as Hanunóo and Tagbanwa, and is traditionally written on bamboo or other natural materials. The characters in this set are designed to retain the distinctive angular and flowing strokes of the historical script, ensuring that the modern digital representation remains faithful to the cultural heritage and practical usage of the Buhid people.
