Unicode Block - CJK Compatibility Forms

CJK Compatibility Forms is a small collection of twenty-eight glyphs that replicate vertical presentation forms of standard punctuation, such as commas, periods, colons, and brackets, as well as a few ligature-like characters like the double hyphen. These forms were originally encoded to preserve the exact typographic appearance of text typeset in traditional vertical Chinese, Japanese, and Korean scripts, where punctuation and spacing shift orientation to fit the vertical flow. In modern digital typography, the block is largely obsolete because contemporary layout engines can automatically rotate or reposition standard punctuation for vertical text, but the characters remain available for legacy data interchange and for specialized typesetting systems that require explicit vertical variants.
