Georgian is a script used to write the Georgian language and other Kartvelian languages, featuring a unique and elegant rounded alphabet known as Mkhedruli, which is the modern standard, alongside the older ecclesiastical forms Asomtavruli and Nuskhuri that are also encoded within this range. The characters include 33 consonants and vowels, with a distinct lack of capital letters in Mkhedruli, where case distinction is absent, though the uppercase-like forms of the ancient scripts are used for titles and emphasis. This script’s letters are phonemic, each representing a single sound, and it is recognized for its harmonious curves and vertical symmetry, making it visually distinctive among the world’s writing systems. The encoding covers the full set of Mkhedruli letters as well as the historical capitals, enabling digital representation of both modern and liturgical Georgian texts.
