Unicode Block - Georgian Extended
Georgian Extended is a set of additional characters designed to complement the standard Georgian script, primarily featuring the modern Mtavruli uppercase forms that were historically used for headings and decorative text rather than in continuous prose. These letters, which share their shapes with the traditional Mkhedruli lowercase but are distinguished by their larger, more formal appearance, were added to facilitate the accurate representation of contemporary Georgian typography and to support cases where capitalization is needed, such as in titles, signage, and acronyms. The block also includes a few supplementary characters that aid in the transcription of other languages and historical variants, ensuring that the full range of Georgian writing practices, both ancient and modern, can be digitally encoded with clarity and consistency.
