Unicode Block - Ideographic Description Characters
Ideographic Description Characters is a set of sixteen symbols used to notationally describe the composition of complex Chinese characters from simpler components, such as indicating left-right, top-bottom, or inside-outside arrangements, as well as overlays and other structural patterns. These characters function as a formal metalanguage for encoding and transmitting the graphic structure of ideographs without relying on a specific font or image, which is particularly useful for documenting rare or newly coined characters not yet assigned standard codepoints. Each symbol corresponds to a specific spatial relationship, enabling unambiguous reconstruction of the intended glyph when the description is processed by software or a human reader.
