Kaktovik Numerals is a set of twenty distinct symbols representing the digits zero through nineteen in the base‑20 numeral system originally developed by Iñupiaq speakers in northern Alaska for use in their language and mathematics education. These glyphs are visually derived from the shape of the human hand, with each digit combining a vertical stroke for a group of five and a horizontal stroke for a single unit, allowing for quick, intuitive arithmetic. The characters are encoded to support the preservation and digital use of this traditional counting method, which was historically written with sticks or in the sand and later adapted for classroom learning. Their inclusion in modern text processing enables the Kaktovik system to be rendered alongside other scripts for educational and linguistic purposes.
