Limbu is a script used to write the Limbu language, spoken primarily in eastern Nepal and parts of Sikkim and Darjeeling in India. It is an abugida, where consonant letters carry inherent vowels that can be modified with diacritical marks, and it also includes independent vowel characters, a set of digits, and various punctuation and spacing signs. The script’s modern revival, led by the Limbu scholar Sirijanga, is reflected in its inclusion in digital text encoding standards, which supports the preservation and daily use of this indigenous writing system in education and literature.
