Unicode Block - Mro
Unicode Version 18.0
Mro is a script used to write the Mru language, spoken by the Mru people primarily in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh and parts of Myanmar. Designed by a community member in the 1980s, it is an alphabetic system written from left to right, with distinct letters for consonants and vowels, as well as a set of digits. The script’s characters feature rounded and curved strokes, and it places a strong emphasis on representing the tonal and phonetic distinctions of the Mru language, which has no long tradition of written literature. Its inclusion in digital standards helps preserve and promote the language for education and modern communication.
