Tai Le Unicode Block

Tai Le is a script used for writing the Tai Nüa language, spoken primarily by the Dehong Dai people in southwestern China and parts of Myanmar. The characters in this writing system are largely derived from the older Tai Tham script, but feature a more simplified and rounded appearance, with distinct vowel and tone marks that are placed above, below, or beside the consonant letters. The script is written horizontally from left to right, and its design supports the tonal nature of the Tai Nüa language, where pitch variations change word meanings. Although historically used for religious and literary texts, the script has seen a revival in modern times for educational materials and cultural preservation, with its character set including both base consonants and a full array of diacritics for vowels and tones.
