Unicode Version 18.0

Ugaritic is an ancient Semitic script used primarily in the city-state of Ugarit, modern-day Syria, during the Late Bronze Age, roughly between the 14th and 12th centuries BCE. Its alphabet, notable for its cuneiform-like wedge shapes, represents one of the earliest known writing systems to order letters in a fixed sequence, with 30 signs covering consonants and three vowel markers. The script was employed for both religious and administrative texts, including the famous Ugaritic epic poems, and it remains a key resource for scholars studying the linguistic and cultural connections between ancient Near Eastern civilizations. The encoded characters in this range preserve the distinctive horizontal wedge forms and include both consonant signs and a word divider, aiding modern digital rendering for academic and historical research.
