Unicode Block - Variation Selectors

Variation Selectors is a set of sixteen invisible formatting characters that alter the appearance of a preceding base character, allowing for subtle typographic distinctions without changing the character itself. Each selector triggers a specific pre-defined variation, such as a different glyph style or presentation form, often used in East Asian scripts and emoji to switch between text and emoji rendering. These selectors work by being placed immediately after the base character, and they function only when a standardized variation sequence has been registered, otherwise they have no visible effect. This mechanism provides a compact way to encode alternate forms without proliferating the number of encoded characters.
