6.3 is the designated Version Added value for a specific set of Unicode characters, released in September 2013. This update was notably small, adding only five new characters, all of which are bidirectional control characters used for explicit formatting in complex text layout. These include the Arabic Letter Mark, four new symbols for shorthand and other script controls, and a set of formatting marks that affect text directionality.
