Line Break - Nonstarter

Unicode Version 18.0

Nonstarter is a value that marks characters which cannot begin a line of text, even when they would otherwise be allowed to break. These are typically punctuation marks like closing quotes, small commas, or certain diacritical marks that, if placed at the start of a new line, would visually disrupt reading or create an awkward typographic appearance. The line break algorithm treats a nonstarter as requiring a preceding character to hold it on the same line, effectively preventing a break before it. This ensures that such characters stay attached to the word or symbol they follow, maintaining proper visual alignment and legibility in wrapped text across many languages and scripts.
