Regional Indicator is a special line break class assigned to the 26 letters used for flag emojis, specifically the pairs of regional indicator symbols (U+1F1E6 through U+1F1FF) that combine to form national flags. When two regional indicators appear consecutively, no line break is permitted between them, ensuring that a flag sequence stays intact on a single line. However, a break is allowed before the first and after the second indicator, so a flag can be separated from surrounding text. This behavior prevents awkward splits within the two-character flag sequence while still allowing flexible text wrapping around it. If an odd number of regional indicators occurs, the extra one does not pair and behaves like a normal character for line breaking, typically allowing a break after it. This rule is essential for proper display of emoji flags in multilingual or emoji-heavy text, preserving visual cohesion across different platforms and font renditions.
