Radical
Radical is a binary character property that identifies characters used as radicals, the core semantic and structural components of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean ideographs, as well as those in related scripts like Tangut. These radicals serve as the primary indexing units in traditional dictionaries, where characters are grouped and looked up by their base components. The property is assigned to a specific set of codepoints, including the Kangxi Radicals block, which contains 214 historical radicals, and additional radical characters found in the CJK Radicals Supplement and other ideographic blocks. By marking these characters explicitly, the property enables software to parse and display radical information for lexical analysis, input methods, and educational tools, helping users break down complex ideographs into their constituent parts for easier identification and search.
