Script - Balinese
Balinese is a script used to write the Balinese language, primarily on the Indonesian island of Bali. It is an abugida, where each consonant carries an inherent vowel that can be modified with diacritical marks. The script includes independent vowel signs, consonant clusters formed with ligatures, and a set of punctuation and numeration symbols. Historically derived from the Kawi script, it is closely related to Javanese and Sundanese scripts. Today, it is used in ceremonial, religious, and cultural contexts, though its everyday utility has declined with the adoption of Latin script. Efforts to preserve and revitalize it persist, and it is encoded with a dedicated character block that supports its orthographic needs, including special marks for nasal sounds and vocalic consonants.
