Script - Gujarati
Gujarati is a script used to write the Gujarati language, primarily spoken in the Indian state of Gujarat, as well as in diaspora communities worldwide. Its characters are derived from the ancient Brahmi script and share structural similarities with Devanagari, but feature a distinctly more rounded and flowing form, lacking the horizontal top line typical of Devanagari. The script is an abugida, where each consonant inherently carries a vowel sound, and vowel signs modify or replace this inherent vowel. It includes independent vowel letters, consonant conjuncts, and diacritical marks for nasalization and breathy sounds. Numerals follow a decimal system with their own unique glyphs. The script’s Unicode assignments cover its historical and modern usage, including support for architectural, astronomical, and other scholarly texts, ensuring digital preservation and typing for contemporary communication.
