Han (Traditional variant) is a script value used to identify characters written in the traditional form of the Chinese Han script, which is distinct from its simplified counterpart. This value applies to characters that retain the original, more complex stroke structures, primarily used in regions such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as in many overseas Chinese communities. It encompasses a wide range of ideographs, including those in the CJK Unified Ideographs blocks, that are codified with traditional glyph shapes, even if the same character has a separate simplified encoding elsewhere. The value helps distinguish these traditional forms from simplified versions, ensuring that text processing, sorting, and rendering respect the orthographic preferences of specific locales.
