Script - Tai Tham
Tai Tham is a script used historically and currently in parts of northern Thailand, Laos, and the Shan State of Myanmar, primarily for religious, literary, and traditional texts, including Buddhist scriptures on palm leaves. It is closely related to other Tai scripts and features distinctive rounded letters, vowel diacritics that can appear above, below, or beside consonants, and a complex system for marking tones. In digital encoding, this script supports characters for consonants, vowels, tonal marks, and punctuation, with special handling for inherent vowels and subscript consonants. Its usage has declined in favor of modern Thai and Lao scripts, but preservation efforts and digital support help maintain its cultural and scholarly importance.
