Script - Linear A
Linear A is a script value used to identify characters originating from the ancient Minoan civilization, primarily found on Crete and dating to roughly 1800–1450 BCE. In the Unicode Standard, this value applies to a set of 344 characters, including syllabic signs, ideograms, and numerical symbols, which remain largely undeciphered. These characters are encoded in the range U+10600 to U+107FF, covering both phonetic and logographic functions, and they are distinct from the later Linear B script used for Mycenaean Greek. The Linear A value helps software correctly render these glyphs, enabling text processing, font selection, and linguistic research on the undeciphered script, even though its phonetic values are not fully agreed upon. This assignment ensures that legacy inscriptions, often found on clay tablets, pottery, and religious objects, can be digitally preserved and analyzed.
