Script - Old Turkic
Old Turkic is a historical script used to write the Turkic languages of the eighth to thirteenth centuries, primarily in Central Asia and Mongolia. In Unicode, this script includes characters for the Orkhon and Yenisei variants, which are inscribed on monuments, stelae, and other archaeological finds. It is written right to left, with distinct glyphs for vowels and consonants, and lacks separate letter cases. The script’s encoded range covers runic-like symbols that represent sounds, including some that were later adapted for other Turkic dialects. Its value in text processing ensures that digital representations preserve the original orthography, enabling accurate transcription, analysis, and display of ancient inscriptions, which is vital for linguistic research and cultural heritage digitization.
