Script - Saurashtra
Saurashtra is a script used to write the Saurashtra language, primarily spoken by the Saurashtra community in the Tamil Nadu region of southern India. It is an abugida, where each consonant inherently carries an inherent vowel, and its glyphs are distinct, angular, and shaped with rounded strokes. The script is derived from the Brahmi family and historically developed for commercial and religious texts, though it is now mostly used in cultural and liturgical contexts. Its character repertoire includes independent vowels, consonant signs, and vowel diacritics, with a few additional letters to represent sounds from Sanskrit and other languages. The script’s modern revival efforts have focused on preserving it through education and digital encoding, enabling its use in computing and typography.
