Script - Sogdian
Sogdian is a historical script used between the 2nd and 11th centuries CE for writing the Sogdian language, an Eastern Iranian tongue spoken along the Silk Road. Its characters are derived from Aramaic cursive writing, and it features a right-to-left direction, with letters that often connect and vary in form based on position within a word, similar to many Semitic scripts. The script also includes a set of numerals and punctuation marks, and it was adapted for other languages, such as Uyghur and Mongolian, significantly influencing their writing systems. In modern digital encoding, each Sogdian character has a designated code point, allowing for accurate representation and preservation of this ancient script in text, enabling scholars and enthusiasts to digitize manuscripts and study the linguistic heritage of Central Asia.
