Script - Old Sogdian

Old Sogdian is a historical script used primarily between the 2nd and 6th centuries CE in Central Asia, originating from the Aramaic alphabet and serving as the writing system for the Sogdian language, a prominent Eastern Iranian tongue along the Silk Road. It features a cursive, right-to-left direction, with separate forms for letters and a notable lack of vowel indication in its early stages, which later evolved into the more developed Sogdian script. This ancient writing system is recognized for its role in transmitting religious texts, commercial documents, and cultural exchanges, bridging influences from Middle Persian and ultimately influencing later scripts like the Uyghur alphabet.
