Script - Tai Yo

Tai Yo is a script used primarily for writing the Tai Yo language, also known as Tai Do or Tai Yò, spoken by communities in northeastern Vietnam and parts of Laos. It is a Brahmic-derived script, featuring an abugida structure where consonant letters carry an inherent vowel, with dependent vowel signs modifying pronunciation. The script includes distinct characters for consonants, vowels, tone marks, and diacritics, reflecting the tonal nature of the language. Historically, it was used for religious and cultural texts, but its modern usage is limited, with efforts to revive literacy among younger generations. In digital encoding, each Tai Yo character is assigned a unique code point, allowing for electronic text processing and preservation of the script’s linguistic heritage.
