Script - Tulu Tigalari

Tulu Tigalari is a historical script used primarily for writing the Tulu language, as well as Sanskrit and Kannada texts, in the coastal regions of Karnataka and Kerala, India. It evolved from the Grantha script and is closely related to other Southern Brahmi-derived scripts, though it developed distinct letterforms and conjunct structures. The script is noted for its rounded, flowing shapes and is traditionally associated with the Tulu-speaking community, particularly in temple records, palm-leaf manuscripts, and folk literature. Its usage declined over the centuries in favor of Kannada script, but it remains significant for studying regional history and religious texts, and it is encoded separately in digital systems to preserve its unique character set and orthographic conventions.
