Script - Yezidi

Yezidi is a writing system used for the Kurmanji dialect of the Kurdish language, primarily by the Yezidi religious community in Iraq, Syria, and the diaspora. Its script, which is distinct from Arabic and Cyrillic-based Kurdish alphabets, was developed in the early 2000s to preserve the community’s cultural and religious texts. The Unicode character property “Script” assigns the value “Yezidi” to all characters belonging to this alphabet, enabling digital text processing, rendering, and search to correctly identify and handle the script. This includes letters, diacritics, and punctuation marks, which are encoded in a dedicated block. The value ensures that software can distinguish Yezidi from adjacent scripts, supporting accurate text display, sorting, and input methods for users of the language.
