Word Break - Format

Format is a Word Break value that identifies characters which serve purely as typographic or formatting controls, such as soft hyphens, zero width spaces, joiners, and variation selectors. These characters do not represent visible content or separators between words, but they can influence line breaking and text segmentation in subtle ways. In word boundary detection, Format characters are typically treated as invisible, meaning they are ignored when determining where a word starts or ends, unless they are adjacent to other word-forming characters, in which case they are skipped over without creating a break. This allows text processors to handle formatting codes without accidentally splitting words or misinterpreting spacing.
