Other is the fallback classification for any character that does not fit into more specific word break categories, such as alphabetic letters, numeric digits, spaces, or punctuation. This value applies to symbols, emoji, unassigned code points, and various exotic scripts or combining marks that lack a defined boundary behavior. In text segmentation, characters marked as Other are treated as part of the same word when adjacent to other Other characters, but they typically break before or after a space or a more strongly defined boundary, like a line break or a punctuation mark. This ensures that unexpected or rare characters do not disrupt the natural flow of word boundaries, while also preventing them from merging with letters or numbers across a break. Essentially, Other acts as a safe default, enabling consistent and predictable word splitting even for obscure or newly added characters.
