Unicode Version 17.0
U+10559 "𐕙" Caucasian Albanian Letter Rat is a character from the historical Caucasian Albanian alphabet, which was used to write the Caucasian Albanian language, an early Christian liturgical and literary language of the ancient kingdom of Caucasian Albania in the South Caucasus, and its name "Rat" represents one of the distinct consonantal sounds in that writing system. This alphabet was rediscovered and deciphered primarily through 20th century scholarship with the help of manuscript palimpsests and inscriptions, and the letter "Rat" is believed to correspond approximately to the sound /r/ in modern transcriptions. Although the script fell out of use after the medieval period, it was officially encoded in the Unicode Standard as part of the Caucasian Albanian block, ensuring its preservation and digital representation for historical linguistic research and cultural heritage documentation.
