This character represents the unaspirated voiceless palatal affricate sound /tʃ/ when it appears with the default or inherent vowel /a/; with the addition of vowel diacritics, it can denote other associated vowel sounds, such as /tʃi/ or /tʃu/. The letter is part of the Chakma block in Unicode, which was added in version 6.1 in 2012 to support the digital encoding and preservation of this endangered language.
